Hidden Costs Breakdown

1

Auto-Renewal Charges After Trial or Cancellation

critical overage

Multiple users report being charged — including full annual fees — after attempting to cancel a free trial or subscription. The platform UI reportedly shows 'no active subscription' while still billing, making it difficult to confirm true cancellation. Users have reported charges ranging from a single month to two full years of fees with minimal recourse through support.

i never published a single thing but they still charged my card for 2 whole years anyway.

trustpilot · 2026-06-10

I get a charge for $99 earlier this week. I log back on to ensure I don't have any subscriptions - still says zero.

2

Thinkific Payments KYC Rejection Risk

critical integration

Thinkific Payments requires mandatory KYC (Know Your Customer) verification through a third-party financial company called Sage. Approval is not guaranteed, and creators can be permanently rejected after fully building and launching their course — with no appeal pathway. Multiple users also report verified KYC followed by funds being withheld for weeks without explanation. This risk is buried in support articles and absent from marketing materials and onboarding flows.

Customer service is non-existent. They've been withholding my money for nearly a month now for no reason, even though my KYC is completed.

3

Community Features Sold as Paid Add-On

medium addon

Adding a second community to any Thinkific plan incurs a significant additional annual cost beyond the base subscription. Community features are not bundled into most plans and must be purchased separately, leading to total annual costs substantially higher than the listed plan price.

trustradius · 2025-04-30

Having a second community adds a lot to the yearly cost of Thinkific.

4

Feature Lock-Up Requiring Repeated Plan Upgrades

high addon

Users report that features they relied on progressively migrate to higher-tier plans, forcing ongoing upgrades to maintain the same capabilities. Bulk orders are restricted to higher plans, and users describe a 'ladder effect' where upgrading one tier still leaves desired features locked behind the next.

trustpilot · 2026-01-29

even when you upgrade your plan, important features all of a sudden belong to a even more expensive plan and remain locked or restricted.

trustradius · 2025-06-24

I wish bulk orders could be available for ALL plans not only the higher paying plans.

5

Price Increases Over Time

medium overage

Users report that plan pricing has increased over time as Thinkific has added new features, even for customers who do not use or need those additions. Long-term customers find their previously acceptable cost has drifted into the expensive range.

trustradius · 2025-08-27

The original price was good, but with new features (that I don't need) it is starting to get expensive.

6

Checkout Failures Causing Silent Revenue Loss

high integration

Users report a broken checkout flow where purchases silently fail — no error shown to the buyer, no order created, no enrollment triggered, and no alert to the course creator. Creators have no tooling to detect how many purchases have been lost this way, turning failed sales into invisible revenue leakage.

trustpilot · 2026-07-24

A customer who hits that has no idea whether they were charged. On my end there is no record they ever tried. A failed sale looks exactly like someone who changed their mind. No report, no log, no alert. I have no way of knowing how many purchases have already died this way, and no tooling exists to find out.

trustpilot · 2026-06-18

400 interested buyers clicked through to purchase, fully intending to sign up. Do you know how many sales I actually got? Two.
