Hidden Costs Breakdown

1

Massive Unannounced Price Increases

critical addon

Multiple customers reported price increases of 275–600% applied to existing accounts with little or no advance notice. Customers on legacy plans were migrated to new pricing without consent, and refund requests were denied by citing contract terms permitting StackPath to charge any amount.

trustpilot

StackPath used to be CDN which was phenomenal. We had legacy pricing. Suddenly in Feb 2023, our plan went up a whopping 275% without prior notice.

trustpilot

600% price increase with no warning. Refusing a refund as terms state they can basically charge whatever they like.

2

New Energy Surcharge Fee

high overage

StackPath introduced a fixed 'energy surcharge' calculated from prior usage levels. The fee did not decrease even when customers significantly reduced consumption, making it effectively a permanent surcharge unrelated to actual usage.

trustpilot

Added the following new fees: "energy surcharge" fee - a set fee based on previous usage. We reduced our usage by around 90% but the energy surchage fee remains the same (hundreds per month)

3

Origin Shield Now Charged Separately

medium addon

StackPath began billing separately for origin shield, a feature previously included at no cost. Customers noted that no other CDN provider charges for this capability, making it a non-standard additional cost.

trustpilot

"origin shield" fee - previously no cost for using origin shield, now it costs extra (no other CDN company charges for this)

4

Paid Support Plans Required

high support

StackPath removed live chat and phone support for standard customers. Support now requires a paid plan starting at $199/month for email-only access with 3–5 day response times. Customers with urgent production issues found themselves without timely help.

trustpilot

"support" fee - have an issue? Well now you have to pay to resolve it. Cheapest support is $199 per month and that's just email. Replies come within 3-5 days most of the time

trustpilot

If you are not an enterprise customer with $$$ to spend on tech support then stay away.

5

No Prorated Refunds on Cancellation

high compliance

Customers report being billed for full billing periods after submitting cancellation requests mid-cycle, with no prorated refunds offered. StackPath's billing terms appear to permit charging the full period regardless of cancellation date.

trustpilot

Canceled CDN services company wide. The end date was the 22nd of the month, they still pre-charged for the entire month of service. Trying to cancel and get a prorated refund has been fruitless.

trustpilot

We experienced a 275% price increase on our account with no warning. So we cancelled the account as soon as we noticed the over billing. We were not refunded for the prior month of overcharges.

6

CDN and WAF Services Discontinued with Short Notice

critical migration

StackPath discontinued its CDN and WAF products in late 2023, giving customers fewer than 3 months to migrate. Customers managing white-labeled SaaS products or multi-site deployments faced emergency re-architecture and migration costs.

trustpilot

with less than 3 months notice, they announce that they're pulling the plug on their CDN offering. For us this means sudden reprioritization to move our white labeled SaaS CDN elsewhere.

trustpilot

Awful, avoid the company altogether. First, they made a huge price increase, and then they dropped the WAF plan totally with only a few weeks of notice.

7

Account Termination Without Warning

critical compliance

Several customers reported having their accounts disabled without prior notice, taking all hosted services offline immediately. StackPath cited account suitability reviews as justification, with no reinstatement path offered.

trustpilot

We have been using Stackpath for an year. Suddenly our websites stopped working. Tried to login into console - no luck. Contacted support and it's appeared that they just decided that our account isn't suitable for Stackpath and disabled it!!! Without notification.

trustpilot

Trouble started when they single-sidedly announced a number of extra fees for energy surcharge and services that were specifically waived in my contract. They didn't provide any information on the costs before they started charging them, which was a breach of their own service terms which required a 30 days notice period for any price changes. So I used my right to object the price changes and get out of the contract early. Stackpath ignored my request for a week and then ultimately cancelled my whole user account with immediate effect even though I asked to leave by the end of the following month.
